A group of teenagers must confront a masked killer after a secret from their past resurfaces.

The story

Scary Movie is a parody of the slasher film genre, specifically mocking franchises like Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer. The story follows a group of teenagers who, after accidentally hitting a man with their car and dumping his body in a lake, swear to keep the incident a secret. One year later, the group is haunted by a mysterious figure wearing a Ghostface mask and robe who begins hunting them one by one. The film blends these horror tropes with absurd comedy as the characters navigate the escalating danger while dealing with their shared secret.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

The film opens with the murder of Drew Decker, who is stalked by a figure in a Ghostface mask. A year later, Cindy Campbell and her friends—Brenda, Ray, Greg, Buffy, and Shorty—are haunted by the fact that they killed a man in a similar fashion a year prior. When a note appears and a killer begins stalking them, the group faces various deadly encounters. Greg is killed during a beauty pageant, and others are hunted in a movie theater and at a house party. During a confrontation, it is revealed that the killer is actually Doofy, a man who was faking a disability. He was the one who orchestrated the events, and the film ends with Cindy being struck by a car while the sheriff walks away.
