Schlaflos in Schwabing (2012)

Fanny Burkhard runs a corporate consultancy with her business partner and ex-boyfriend, Roland Beck. They specialize in hostile takeovers. Whenever large corporations want to buy up small companies, they are called in. The business is extremely lucrative and successful. Unfortunately, things are going far less well in love. Roland once left her for a younger woman. It affected her so deeply that she has suffered from insomnia for three years. She hopes that opening a new office in Hong Kong will give her the distance she needs. But before she can take on that project, she has to close one last deal for a Chinese company that wants to take over a small German game company. Before the first purchase offer is even made, she has to gather information about the company’s founder. She is surprised to discover that the managing director is Christian, an eccentric game inventor. He was her neighbor in her old student house share. He once broke the heart of her best friend, Nicole. Fanny arranges a chance encounter to make contact with him. From then on, she spies on him and realizes that she likes him—and that it is becoming increasingly difficult to betray him. The situation is made no easier by the fact that her 20-year-old nephew, Florian, gets along very well with Christian’s pretty daughter, Marie. The emotional turmoil intensifies as Roland demands results and Fanny also tries to hide her feelings for Christian from Nicole.
