The story

A twice-divorced registrar vows never to marry again, but his bachelor household faces romantic complications.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Hugo Bartels is a registrar who has married countless couples. But marriage doesn’t seem to work out so well for him personally. Hugo has already been divorced twice, even though he never cheated on his wives and is otherwise a decent fellow. His first marriage, to Gisela, failed because Hugo was more interested in soccer than in his wife. His second marriage, to Mary, failed because he paid too much attention to his new model railway. His divorces have made Hugo something of a poor role model at the registry office. So he has to promise City Councilor Mögele and the mayor never to marry again. Together with the confirmed bachelors Caesar and Balduin, Hugo sets up a men-only shared household, where women are not supposed to be allowed. But Hugo’s ex-wives secretly set their sights on his two housemates, while Hugo himself has to comfort the attractive Isabella, who was left at the altar by her groom. In the end, feminine powers of seduction triumph over the three bachelors’ principles, and three couples are married once again.
