The story

Agnes Feurig, a single woman in her mid-fifties, has spent more than 30 years as a dedicated community nurse in the small village of Krummbach in Upper Lusatia. Known for her wit and no-nonsense Berlin manner, she travels by scooter to care for her patients and help wherever she can. Her kind-hearted but sometimes meddlesome approach wins many villagers over, though not everyone appreciates it. When Agnes tries to address the village’s housing shortage by helping pregnant shop worker Katja Lehnert find a suitable home, she bypasses the town council and clashes with the new mayor, Udo Patschek.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Agnes Feurig is a single woman in her mid-fifties and has been a dedicated community nurse for more than 30 years. With her wit and no-nonsense Berlin manner, she lives and works in the small village of Krummbach in Upper Lusatia, where she drives her white Schwalbe to visit and care for her patients. She helps wherever she can, which is one reason her patients like her so much. But Sister Agnes’s kind-hearted, though sometimes meddlesome, nature does not win her friends with everyone. For example, she wants to solve the village’s housing shortage in her own way, bypassing the town council, and help Katja Lehnert, who works at the village store and is pregnant, find a suitable home. When this brings her into conflict with the new mayor, Udo Patschek, she goes on strike under the pretext of being ill and eventually threatens to request a transfer to another town. This angers the people of Krummbach, who absolutely do not want to lose their Sister Agnes.
