A slacker musician must defeat the seven evil exes of his new girlfriend to win her heart.

The story

In Toronto, Scott Pilgrim, a 22-year-old bassist for the indie garage band Sex Bob-Omb, begins dating Ramona Flowers, an American delivery girl. However, to officially date her, Scott must face a daunting challenge: he must defeat the seven evil ex-boyfriends of Ramona. After a confrontation at a battle of the bands leads to his first encounter with one of her exes, Scott learns the extent of the task ahead. He must navigate a series of battles against these formidable opponents, each possessing unique abilities, while trying to secure his relationship with Ramona in a world that blends reality with comic book and video game aesthetics.

Scott Pilgrim, a bassist for the band Sex Bob-Omb, begins dating Ramona Flowers but learns he must defeat her seven evil exes to be with her. He defeats Matthew Patel, Lucas Lee, and the super-powered Todd Ingram. After a brief breakup following a confrontation with the ninja Roxy Richter, Scott faces the techno twins Kyle and Ken Katayanagi. When Ramona briefly reunites with her final ex, Gideon Graves, Scott challenges him to a fight at the Chaos Theater. During the battle, Scott is killed and enters limbo, where he learns Ramona is under Gideon's mind control. Using a '1-up' to resurrect, Scott returns to the theater, gains the 'Power of Self-Respect,' and joins forces with his former flame Knives Chau to defeat Gideon. After reconciling with Knives and acknowledging his mistakes, Scott finally pursues Ramona.
