Full plot (contains spoilers)
One year after the Woodsboro killings, a student named Jason Carvey, wearing a Ghostface costume, murders a professor and begins a plot to kill the Carpenter sisters, Sam and Tara. However, Jason is killed by a different Ghostface. The sisters, now in New York City, are joined by friends and allies. They are targeted by a series of attacks, including a murder in a bodega and the death of a doctor. The group, including Gale Weathers and a survivor named Kirby Reed, eventually retreats to an abandoned theater that serves as a shrine to the Ghostface killers. During a final confrontation, it is revealed that the mastermind is Detective Wayne Bailey, who, along with his children Ethan and Quinn, seeks revenge on Sam for the death of his son. The Carpenter sisters and their allies fight back, eventually defeating the trio. Sam ultimately kills Wayne, and the film ends with the survivors moving forward while Sam discards her father's mask.
