The story
In 2002, shortly after 9/11, FBI counterterrorism agent Ray Kasten and investigator Jessica Cobb meet new ADA Claire Sloan. They are called to a crime scene where they discover the body of Jess's 18-year-old daughter, Carolyn, who has been murdered and bleached to destroy DNA evidence. Ray feels responsible for the tragedy due to work conflicts. While helping Jess pack to move, Ray identifies a suspect, Anzor Marzin, an informant in a terrorism probe. Despite the DA's reluctance to pursue him, Ray eventually tracks down and arrests Marzin, leading to a violent confrontation.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
In 2002, FBI agent Ray Kasten and investigator Jessica Cobb discover the murdered body of Jess's daughter, Carolyn. Ray identifies the killer as Anzor Marzin, a terrorism informant. After a violent confrontation, Marzin is released by the DA. Fourteen years later, Ray is head of security for the New York Mets and returns to Los Angeles. He reunites with Claire (now DA) and Jess (now an investigator). Ray finds a man named Clay Beckwith, whom he believes is Marzin. A shootout occurs, killing Officer Siefert, but Jess insists Beckwith is not Marzin. When Ray and Claire visit Jess's farmhouse, she confesses she killed Marzin fourteen years prior. Ray later discovers Marzin is actually alive, imprisoned in a cage in Jess's barn. Marzin begs for a conversation. Ray leaves his gun with Jess and begins digging a grave as Jess shoots Marzin. The two meet with relief as Claire closes the case.
