Full plot (contains spoilers)

A solitary university professor, disappointed with society and philosophically resigned, spends his days teaching literature, reading books, and wandering the streets of Tehran. One night, he notices a young woman defending herself against a motorist’s harassment and intervenes to help her. The young woman is named Roya, and she has come to the capital to keep a promise she made to her beloved, Amir: one year after their last meeting, she would show up for four consecutive nights at the agreed-upon place and time, waiting for his return. The professor offers Roya shelter and companionship, and over the course of the four nights, a bond between them grows ever deeper, until the man, won over by Roya’s sweetness and vulnerability, decides to ask her to marry him. However, on the fourth and final night, Amir shows up for the rendezvous, and Roya, overcome with joy at her beloved’s return, leaves with him, leaving the professor alone once again.
