As the Third Reich faces a manpower crisis, a military doctor tries to shield his daughters from a coercive scheme to use women to serve front-line officers.

The story

Near the end of the Second World War, with the Wehrmacht short of manpower, women are recruited not as combatants but as “Blitzmädels”—nurses, communications assistants, and anti-aircraft auxiliaries. The source says they are assigned to sexually satisfy German front-line officers, supposedly to strengthen them for combat and raise morale. Staff physician Dr. Felix Kuhn inspects the group, whose members are selected for their sexual attractiveness. His daughters Eva and Marga are also expected to serve, but Kuhn tries to protect them and other women by issuing vague medical certificates. His efforts draw the attention of the Gestapo, which visits him.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

The story is set in the Third Reich toward the end of the Second World War. The Wehrmacht is in danger of being depleted of manpower, so women are now to be recruited as well. But not to serve at the front as combatants. As so-called “Blitzmädels,” nurses, communications assistants, and anti-aircraft auxiliaries are put into uniforms to sexually satisfy German front-line officers, strengthen them for combat, and boost the morale of Hitler’s last reserves against the advancing Red Army. Staff physician Dr. Felix Kuhn inspects the group of women, often blonde, selected purely for their sexual attractiveness. His two pretty daughters, Eva and Marga, are also supposed to serve the soldiers, but Kuhn repeatedly tries to spare them and other girls from this dubious service to the Fatherland by giving them vague medical certificates. One day, Dr. Kuhn is therefore visited by the Gestapo.
