The story
After being dumped by his girlfriend, popular high school student Zack Siler finds his social standing slipping. To regain his status, he accepts a challenge from his friend Dean: transform Laney Boggs, an awkward and unpopular art student, into the prom queen in just six weeks. Zack attempts to win her over, while Laney initially resists his advances. As the deadline approaches, the two must navigate their differing social worlds and personal lives. The transformation process involves a series of social outings and a significant makeover, leading to a complicated dynamic as the prom draws near.

Zack Siler is a popular student in Southern California who is dumped by his girlfriend, Taylor, for a reality TV star. To prove his claim that Taylor is replaceable, his friend Dean challenges him to turn Laney Boggs, an unpopular art student, into the prom queen in six weeks. Zack and Laney begin a tentative relationship as he tries to win her over, eventually taking her to a beach party where she is humiliated by Taylor but ends up nominated for prom queen. After a series of personal revelations and a public fallout regarding the nature of the bet, Laney and Zack realize their true feelings for one another. At the prom, after a series of complications involving the bet and their respective friends, Zack and Laney share a dance and kiss. On graduation day, Zack makes a final, unconventional appearance on stage, and the two share a smile, acknowledging their connection.
