The story
Irish American Catholic Mickey Fitzpatrick is a New York City taxi driver struggling with his ex-fiancée's infidelity. While his brother Francis maintains a strained marriage with Renee, Mickey impulsively marries an NYU art student named Hope after a chance meeting. However, Mickey soon finds himself disillusioned by Hope's bohemian lifestyle and their ramshackle apartment. Meanwhile, Renee's family pressures Mickey and their father, Frank, to confront Francis about his lack of intimacy, unaware of his ongoing affair. As the brothers navigate their respective romantic failures and their father's sexist advice, the family dynamics are pushed to the breaking point.

Mickey Fitzpatrick, a NYC taxi driver, impulsively marries NYU art student Hope after a chance meeting, only to become disillusioned by her bohemian lifestyle. His brother Francis is secretly having an affair with Mickey's ex-fiancée, Heather, while his wife Renee suspects he is gay. Their father, Frank, provides sexist and egotistical advice to both sons. The truth about Francis's affair comes out when Mickey discovers Heather is the one Francis is seeing. This leads to a physical confrontation between the brothers. Francis eventually files for divorce from Renee, but learns Mickey's history with Heather, causing him to hesitate on marrying her. Meanwhile, Hope reveals she may move to Paris for art school and mentions a past 'special relationship' with a co-worker, upsetting Mickey. Heather eventually marries a wealthy man named 'Papa' after being threatened with her past as a call girl. Finally, Frank admits his own wife has been cheating on him with a hardware store owner. The three men go fishing together, acknowledging that despite their failed love lives, they will always have each other.
