A visceral and often sad portrayal of the destructive, drug-fueled romance between punk icon Sid Vicious and Nancy Spungen.

The story

In 1977, close friends and band members Sid Vicious and Johnny Rotten meet Nancy Spungen, a heroin-addicted American groupie in London. Sid begins dating Nancy, and the two swiftly bond over heroin use. As they fall deeply in love, their self-destructive, drug-fueled relationship begins to fray Sid's relationship with the rest of the Sex Pistols. Despite warnings from friends about Nancy's devastating effect on his life, Sid stubbornly ignores them. The film follows their turbulent journey through the punk scene, a disastrous American tour, and their eventual descent into deeper addiction and squalor in New York City.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

The film begins in 1978 with police finding Nancy Spungen dead in the Hotel Chelsea, New York City, and taking Sid Vicious into custody. The narrative then flashes back to 1977, where Sid meets Nancy in London. They bond over heroin, and their relationship becomes increasingly destructive, causing friction within the Sex Pistols. During a disastrous American tour, Sid is physically violent and strung out, while Nancy remains in London. After the band breaks up in early 1978, Sid attempts a solo career with Nancy as his manager, but they quickly descend into severe heroin addiction and depression. They eventually move into the Hotel Chelsea, living in squalor. The affair ends tragically when Nancy begs Sid to kill her during an argument. They fight in a drug-induced haze, and Sid stabs her. Nancy later collapses and dies in the bathroom. The film concludes with Sid being bailed out by his mother, wandering to a restaurant, and eventually being picked up by a taxi where he believes he sees Nancy alive in the back seat. A postscript notes Vicious died of a heroin overdose.
