Full plot (contains spoilers)
Rose Da Silva and her husband Christopher are troubled by their adopted daughter Sharon's sleepwalking and nightmares about the abandoned town of Silent Hill. Rose takes Sharon to the town, but after a crash, Sharon goes missing. Rose enters a fog-shrouded dimension where she encounters monsters and the girl she saw before the crash, who is revealed to be an aspect of Alessa Gillespie. In the real world, Christopher searches the town with Officer Thomas Gucci, who sees only a dilapidated area. In the supernatural dimension, Rose and Officer Cybil Bennett are trapped together. Rose learns of the Brethren, a cult led by the high priestess Christabella. It is revealed that Alessa was a girl experimented on by the cult in 1974, and her soul split into two parts: her innocence (manifested as Sharon) and her rage (Dark Alessa). To find Sharon, Rose allows Dark Alessa's spirit into her body. In a final confrontation at a church, Christabella is defeated by the unleashed Alessa. Rose rescues Sharon, and the two girls merge back into one being. They escape the town, but find themselves still trapped in the fog-shrouded dimension while Christopher remains in the real world.
