Buster Moon and his team travel to Redshore City to impress a talent scout and eventually land an audition with mogul Jimmy Crystal. They pitch a sci-fi musical featuring the legendary, reclusive rock star Clay Calloway. While the team prepares, they face various hurdles: Rosita deals with a fear of heights, Johnny struggles with a harsh dance instructor, and Meena navigates a complicated romantic scene. Buster and Ash successfully convince Clay to join the show, but internal conflicts arise when Porsha feels sidelined and is eventually left behind. Tensions peak when Jimmy Crystal threatens Buster for not delivering Clay. During the final performance, the team overcomes various obstacles, including a jealous choreographer and a physical confrontation with Jimmy. Clay finally takes the stage for a triumphant finale, and Jimmy is arrested for his crimes. The film ends with the group being offered a residency at a major theater, The Majestic.
