Full plot (contains spoilers)
Taylor Wyatt, a widowed father, is attempting to sell his home with his sister Liz's help. His children, Jack and Amber, are dealing with their own issues: Jack is a gamer and Amber is an artist whose violent, monstrous sketches are causing problems at school. After Jack discovers a pond that magically repairs his phone, Amber's sketchbook falls into the water, bringing her genocidal monsters to life. The monsters begin haunting the town, including 'eyeders' that steal belongings and a monster that takes a school bus hostage. Jack, Amber, and their classmate Bowman realize they must use the pond to animate weapons and allied creatures to fight back. They return home to sketch defenses and eventually head to the pond to confront Amber's self-modelled monster, which is animating more creatures. After a battle where they successfully animate their weapons, the siblings reunite with their father. Jack reveals that his mother's ashes were lost from their urn, and the family returns to their ordinary lives.
