A mother and her sea-captain father are divided by the unresolved disappearance of her son and a lingering legend of murder.
The story
Julia has never forgiven her father, Gerlof, a sea captain whom she considers responsible for the death of her son, Jens. For years, Gerlof has pursued his own investigation into the boy’s death and disappearance, suspecting that the legendary murderer Nils Kant may have been involved. Kant has long been buried, but local stories claim that he still wanders the Alvar at dusk, the “skumtimmen.”
