Soldaterkammerater på vagt (1960)

During an exercise, Private 616 Knud gets separated from his company, but is lucky enough to meet three young women, Danielle, Vips, and Dorthe, who drive him back to the company in their little red car. During the ride, Knud falls in love with Danielle. She is French and is called Nelle, Vips tells him. They reach the company and drop Knud off. Knud realizes too late that he has left his rifle in the girls’ car. Daily life at the barracks goes on until the day it is announced that volunteers are wanted for the UN forces in Gaza (UNEF I). At the airfield in Gaza, they are met by Sergeant Major Vældegård, who makes it quite clear that he is not especially pleased to have this bunch of fellows with him. The seven settle in well among the international company serving as peacekeepers. During a sightseeing trip, Knud is greatly surprised to meet Nelle, who tells him that she and Vips are dancers at one of Cairo’s fashionable nightclubs. They are having trouble with their engagement: the nightclub owner has taken Nelle’s passport and refuses to give it back. Knud promises to take care of the matter. One evening, he and his loyal comrades turn up at the nightclub. Knud approaches the owner, who tells him to stay out of it. His comrades come to the rescue, and after a fight, Nelle gets her passport back. Vips and Danielle can go home. The seven men and Vældegård stand on the quay to wish the girls a good journey.
