Coline Serreau travels around the world to meet people putting practical solutions to environmental problems into action.
The story
Coline Serreau’s documentary argues that, after years of alarmist and disaster films, it is time to show that solutions to ecological, financial, and political crises exist. It follows the director as she meets people around the world who are putting alternatives into practice. Those featured include peasant poet Pierre Rabhi, Indian ecologist Vandana Shiva, soil microbiology specialists Lydia and Claude Bourguignon, Brazil’s landless peasants, Kokopelli in India, and Mr. Antoniets in Ukraine. Their experiences and ideas offer examples of initiatives already underway to address environmental problems.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Alarmist and disaster films have been made. They served a purpose, but now we need to show that solutions exist and give a voice to the ideas of philosophers and economists who, while explaining why our social model has become mired in the ecological, financial, and political crisis we are experiencing, are also devising and testing alternatives. Coline Serreau’s documentary seeks to go beyond recent “environmental” documentaries by showing initiatives already underway. Around the world, the director meets men and women putting their own solutions to environmental problems into practice. Among those she meets are the peasant poet Pierre Rabhi, Indian ecologist Vandana Shiva, soil microbiology specialists Lydia and Claude Bourguignon, Brazil’s landless peasants, Kokopelli in India, and Mr. Antoniets in Ukraine...
