An aspiring animator's child is born with the magical powers of the Mask of Loki, leading to a chaotic struggle between a father, a mischievous god, and a powerful infant.

The story

Eleven years after the events of the first film, the real Mask of Loki is discovered in a river by a dog belonging to Tim Avery, an aspiring animator who is reluctant to accept parenthood. When Tim dons the mask during a Halloween party, he becomes the reincarnation of 'The Mask' and uses his powers to invigorate the event. However, their new son, Alvey, is born with the mask's powers. This alerts Odin, who tasks Loki with finding the child to recover the mask, setting off a series of chaotic events as Tim struggles to balance fatherhood with his newfound magical abilities.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

After the first film, Doctor Arthur Neuman gives a tour of a museum where a stranger transforms into Loki and attempts to steal a replica of the Mask of Loki. Meanwhile, the real mask is found by Tim Avery's dog, Otis. Tim, an animator, dons the mask at a party and becomes 'The Mask,' using his powers to inspire his boss. Their son, Alvey, is born with the mask's powers, alerting Odin. Odin tells Loki that finding the child will lead him to the mask. While Tonya is away on a business trip, Alvey begins to torment Tim using his powers. Otis also dons the mask and tries to fight Alvey. Loki eventually finds Alvey and confronts Tim, but Alvey protects his father. Odin strips Loki of his powers for his destructive approach. Loki then performs a ritual to regain his powers from Odin, who grants them for a limited time. Loki kidnaps Alvey, and Tonya joins Tim and Otis to make an exchange. Loki decides to keep Alvey, leading to a confrontation where Tim becomes the Mask again. They eventually reach an agreement where Alvey chooses to stay with his father. Odin scolds Loki for his failure, and Tim gives them the mask. The film ends with Tim being rehired after a successful cartoon based on Alvey and Otis.
