With an abortion appointment the next morning, she questions whether she loves her boyfriend and whether to end their relationship. After seeking his support, she leaves their shared apartment on his motorcycle and speeds through Hamburg, trying to get away from him. Overwhelmed and unable to decide, she begins another drinking binge in the nighttime streets.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Sophie, 20, is pregnant and shows no joy about it. During the period when the child was conceived, she woke up one morning and realized that the night before, after drinking heavily, she had had sex. Her thoughts circle around the questions: Who is the unwanted child’s father? Her boyfriend? A one-night stand? Or was she raped? Should she go to the abortion appointment the next morning? Does she love her boyfriend? Should she end their relationship? She has to decide. Sophie, who only shortly before had sought support from her boyfriend, leaves their shared apartment and rides off on his motorcycle. At suicidal speed, she races through the streets of Hamburg, as far away as possible from her boyfriend Manuel, who always presents himself as reasonable and understanding in their discussions. Overwhelmed and unable to make a decision in this state of extreme distress, Sophie sets off on another drinking binge through the nighttime streets of Hamburg. She visits cheap bars and a brothel. The twenty-year-old meets men almost indiscriminately and by chance. She does not shy away from confrontations and risks being raped. She also has a lengthy conversation with Gigi, the brothel owner, who wants to turn her into a prostitute. During this conversation, she gives her name, which, in her drunken state, comes out as “Sophiiiie!” She finds a little peace during a few aimless taxi rides, but her self-destructive moments prevail, and the next morning she wakes up again with a terrible hangover in the middle of a green space. In this condition, she is found by street-cleaning workers and taken to the hospital. She is treated there and discharged. Glad and happy to have survived the night, and no longer thinking about abortion, she calls a taxi driver from a small café and asks him to take her home. Before she can explain to the driver where she is, however, she is overcome by cramps. In the café’s bathroom, she suffers a miscarriage. Completely exhausted, with blood-smeared hands, she leaves the café, staggering. From a phone booth, she calls a complete stranger and tells him her story. The man thinks she is a monster and shows no understanding. She finds the strength to fight back once more by destroying the phone. Sophie, entirely alone and without support, buries the embryo in the park, crying and grieving. The film ends with Sophie getting in front of an ICE train, but apparently, miraculously, surviving.
