After her husband dies just before a family birthday gathering, Odile conceals his body and pretends he is asleep.
The story
Odile and Jean are preparing to welcome their children and grandchildren to their large country house for Odile’s birthday. As Jean reaches for a sewing box on top of the bedroom wardrobe, he suddenly dies of cardiac arrest. When Odile finds him, she panics and seeks help from their farmer neighbor, who confirms that Jean is dead. Overwhelmed by grief, Odile does not call for help and lies beside her husband. Hearing her daughter Sylvie arrive, she hides Jean’s body under the bed and tells the family that he is asleep, trying to keep the gathering going as though nothing has happened.

Odile (Ariane Ascaride) and Jean (Bernard Alane) are preparing to welcome their children and grandchildren to their large house in the countryside to celebrate Odile’s birthday. As Jean reaches for a sewing box on top of the bedroom wardrobe, he suddenly dies of cardiac arrest. When Odile discovers him, she panics and goes to get their farmer neighbor, who can only confirm that Jean is dead. Devastated, she does not call for help and simply lies down beside her husband. But when she hears her daughter Sylvie (Bérénice Bejo) arrive, she hides the body under the bed and tells everyone that he is asleep. The day carries on as normal, until her grandson Clément discovers the body in the bedroom.
