A sailing group at a coastal cooperative tries to win support for an offshore-capable sailboat despite indifference from its management board.
The story
At a coastal agricultural production cooperative, water-sports enthusiasts want to acquire an offshore-capable sailboat, but the management board shows no interest. Chief accountant Irma is the only one interested in sailing, particularly in recreational skipper Ali. When a minister suddenly announces an impending visit, Irma devises a way to support the sailors: quickly forming a company sports association, with a sailing section, could help make a good impression. Chairman Scheffel remains opposed and plans to repurpose the sailors’ storage room.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
The water-sports enthusiasts at a coastal agricultural production cooperative are determined to acquire an offshore-capable sailboat. Unfortunately, the management board is uninterested. Only chief accountant Irma (Renate Reinecke) takes an interest in sailing, and especially in recreational skipper Ali (Günter Schubert). When a minister (Erik S. Klein) suddenly announces that he will be visiting, Irma comes up with a plan to support the sailors. To make a good impression on the minister, a company sports association is to be set up quickly, and creating a sailing section seems ideal. But chairman Scheffel (Jürgen Zartmann) remains opposed and even plans to repurpose the sailors’ storage room. The situation only begins to change when the minister takes a liking to the sailing trip hastily arranged for him.
