The members of the fictional heavy metal band Spinal Tap reunite for one final show forty years after their first appearance.

The story

Forty years after the first film, documentarian Marty DiBergi attempts to film a reunion and final show of the legendary rock band Spinal Tap. Marty must track down original members Nigel Tufnel, David St. Hubbins, and Derek Smalls, who have all moved on to vastly different lives. Upon discovering a contract requiring the band to perform one more concert, Marty reunites the trio. The band faces the challenge of finding a new drummer and navigating the complexities of their reunion. They must navigate their past, their current lives, and the pressures of a final performance in a high-stakes environment as they prepare to face their fans one last time.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Documentarian Marty DiBergi discovers a contract requiring the legendary rock band Spinal Tap to perform one final concert. He tracks down original members Nigel Tufnel, David St. Hubbins, and Derek Smalls, who have spent decades in obscurity. The band reunites and hires a new drummer, Didi Crockett, and a keyboardist, CJ Vanston. During rehearsals in New Orleans, the band deals with various eccentricities, including a 'ghost house' residence and a sponsorship from a promoter who doesn't understand music. They receive visits from icons like Paul McCartney and Elton John. The plot culminates in a chaotic concert where a massive stone monument falls during the performance of 'Stonehenge,' crushing the stage and the guest musicians. In the aftermath, the band members reconcile their personal grievances, and it is revealed that Derek was the one who had an affair with David's wife, while Didi survives the collapse to be the only remaining drummer.
