Full plot (contains spoilers)
In 1981, Bruce Springsteen retreats to a house in New Jersey following 'The River' tour. He meets Faye Romano and begins recording a demo with his technician, Mike Batlan. While his label pushes for hits, Bruce focuses on a raw, unvarnished sound influenced by his past and his father's struggles. After a period of recording in New York with the E Street Band, he rejects the polished studio sound in favor of his original acoustic vision. He eventually allows his raw demo to be used as the master for the album 'Nebraska'. The film concludes with a time jump: 'Nebraska' reaches number three on the charts, while the discarded hits are released on his next album, 'Born in the U.S.A.', which leads him to global superstardom while he continues to seek treatment for depression.
