The story

A German officer joins a plan to assassinate Hitler and overthrow the Nazi regime.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg becomes an opponent of Nazi policies when Colonel Henning von Tresckow informs him about the Germans’ war crimes behind the Russian front. On July 20, 1944, after several failed attempts, Stauffenberg gets the chance to get close to the dictator Hitler with a bomb in his briefcase and activate a time fuse. Although Hitler survives the assassination attempt, Stauffenberg and the rebel officers in Berlin try to carry out the coup nonetheless. Shortly before midnight, the uprising finally collapses. Stauffenberg speaks of his dream of a peace-loving Germany. Immediately afterward, on Fromm’s orders, the colonel is summarily shot along with three co-conspirators in the courtyard of the Bendlerblock in Berlin. The final scene is Tresckow’s suicide near the Russian front, which he intended to use to protect the members of the conspiracy and his family.
