Conjoined twin brothers navigate the complexities of fame and romance while trying to maintain their secret identity.

The story

Conjoined twins Bob and Walt Tenor attempt to live normal lives in Oak Bluffs on Martha's Vineyard, where they run a diner. While outgoing Walt dreams of becoming a Hollywood actor, his shy brother Bob prefers to stay in the background. After a successful one-man show, Walt persuades a hesitant Bob to move to California to pursue his acting ambitions. Upon arriving, they face the challenges of navigating Hollywood life as conjoined twins, including finding work and managing their unique physical situation while trying to keep their condition a secret from the public.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Bob and Walt Tenor are conjoined twins living in Oak Bluffs, Martha's Vineyard, running a diner. Walt, the outgoing twin, wants to be an actor, while Bob is shy and has a secret long-distance relationship with a pen pal named May Fong. After a successful play, Walt convinces Bob to move to Hollywood. They rent an apartment and meet April Mercedes. Walt explains they share a liver, which is why he looks older. Walt struggles to find work until Cher hires him as a co-star for a TV show; they use bluescreen effects to hide Bob. Walt becomes famous, and they eventually embrace their conjoined status as celebrities. However, Walt realizes Bob is unhappy and misses May. Walt demands a surgical separation. After a series of events including Walt's erratic behavior and Bob's eventual consent, the surgery is successful. Bob and May move back to Oak Bluffs and marry, while Walt returns to the Vineyard, finding fulfillment in local theater. One year later, the twins simulate their conjoinment with Velcro clothing while Bob and May are married with a pregnant May.
