Full plot (contains spoilers)
In 1959, the all-white neighborhood of Suburbicon is disrupted by the arrival of the Mayers family. Gardner Lodge, a mild-mannered man, lives with his paraplegic wife Rose and son Nicky. Following a home invasion by robbers Sloan and Louis, Rose is left unconscious. Her twin sister Margaret moves in, pretending to be Rose. When the robbers return demanding money for Rose's death, Gardner and Margaret attempt to hide their involvement in an insurance fraud scheme. An insurance investigator, Bud Cooper, begins to suspect them, leading Gardner and Margaret to murder him. Meanwhile, a riot breaks out at the Mayers' home. During the chaos, Margaret is killed by Louis, who is then killed by Nicky's Uncle Mitch. Sloan is killed by a fire truck. Gardner finds Nicky in a closet and offers him a choice: flee to Aruba with the insurance money or die. The next morning, Gardner is found dead from a poisoned sandwich, while Nicky goes outside to play with the Mayers' son, Andy, as the community cleans up the aftermath of the riot.
