The story

Elviz Tütüncü, brother to a German-Turkish baker in Hamburg, runs a club financed by a loan from his uncle Cengiz, with his mother’s land in Turkey pledged as collateral. After police shut the club down, Cengiz demands repayment or the land. Elviz’s brother Tarik secures four weeks to find the money, and Elviz hits on an unusual business plan after overhearing Tarik struggle to call a sex hotline: a Turkish-language phone-sex service, set up with his friend Olaf and an experienced German businessman. As the business grows, Elviz falls for Anna, a belly-dancing teacher who applies to work on the hotline, forcing him to balance his feelings with the secrets surrounding his enterprise.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Elviz Tütüncü, the brother of a German-Turkish baker from Hamburg, runs a club. To finance it, he took out a €50,000 loan from his uncle Cengiz, giving him the papers for his mother’s land in Turkey as collateral. Cengiz intends to build a hotel complex on the property. To achieve this, he calls the police when some underage people are found in Elviz’s club. As a result, Elviz has to close it. Cengiz now wants his money back or the land. Elviz’s brother, Tarik, asks Cengiz for a four-week extension to raise the necessary money. Cengiz grants it, expecting Elviz to be unable to repay the loan in time. When Elviz happens to hear Tarik trying to call a sex hotline and having some “language difficulties,” he gets a brilliant idea: setting up a Turkish-language phone-sex hotline. His friend Olaf knows a German businessman named Porno-Schneyder, who has experience in the industry and has become wealthy. Porno-Schneyder provides Elviz and Olaf with phone numbers, in return for a share of the profits. They find the premises they need in Tarik’s bakery, where some rooms are unoccupied. The husbands of the women who work there are told that it is an ordinary service hotline. The hotline operates under the cover of a fake internet agency called Lüksweb. Business begins to flourish, and Elviz is able to repay the first installment to Cengiz, who is far from pleased. Elviz has fallen in love with Anna, his niece’s belly-dancing teacher. The two get to know each other over dinner, but it is interrupted by a phone call, after which Elviz has to go straight to his office. When Anna asks what he does for a living, he gives her only a vague answer and leaves. Anna is having financial difficulties because her father no longer supports her: she does not want to take over his medical practice and instead wants to become a belly-dancing teacher. She finds out that the service hotline has openings and applies. When Elviz sees her, he immediately wants her sent away. Instead, the hotline’s manager hires her. Elviz keeps his distance for days and is utterly desperate. Eventually, he reveals to Anna that he owns the company, but does not want to fire her because he knows she needs the money, and offers to pay her wages without expecting anything in return. Anna refuses the offer and continues working there. Elviz, consumed by jealousy, orders Olaf to record all of Anna’s calls. Elviz and Anna ignore each other, and Olaf, fed up with the arguments with his boss, packs his things and leaves. Meanwhile, Cengiz discovers what is going on behind Elviz’s front company. In order to get the coveted property after all, he informs the husbands of the women who work there and the press. His plan works: the men storm the business, and Tarik now realizes how Elviz earns his money. As a result, Elviz loses the company, and his brother has to close the bakery because of the bad press. The land in Turkey is finally transferred to Cengiz. Elviz plans to travel to Turkey to see his mother’s house one last time before it is demolished. Before leaving, he goes to Olaf to say goodbye and apologize. Olaf accepts the apology and reveals that one of his recordings captured Cengiz as a caller. The two use this to blackmail Cengiz, who then returns the land and gives Tarik €30,000 to help him make a fresh start in his career. Elviz also apologizes to Anna with a large bouquet of roses, and she forgives him.
