The story

In 1955, in the fictional town of Willow Valley, Washington, young Susie Quinn (nicknamed Susie Q) prepares for her winter formal. On the way to the dance with her boyfriend Johnny Angel, Susie remembers that her grandfather needed to find “very important” papers to give to her mother Betsy. Spooking Johnny into stopping the car at an odd angle on a river bridge, she asks Johnny to go back to the house, saying she has a really bad feeling.
