A former government operative must navigate a web of conspiracy and betrayal to clear his name after his former wife is found dead.
The story
Retired CIA officer Bryan Mills visits his daughter, Kim, and later meets with his former wife, Lenore. After Lenore is found dead, Bryan is immediately accused of her murder by the police. To clear his name and find the truth, he goes on the run, evading law enforcement while using his specialized skills to track her final movements. He discovers she was abducted by a mysterious group and begins a dangerous investigation to uncover the real culprits behind her death while trying to ensure the safety of his daughter.

After finding his former wife Lenore dead, retired CIA agent Bryan Mills is accused of her murder. He evades the police and discovers she was abducted by men associated with a man named Stuart. Through investigation, he learns that Stuart's business partner, a Russian mob boss named Oleg Malankov, was involved. Bryan eventually confronts Stuart and Malankov. He learns that Stuart planned Lenore's death to claim a $12,000,000 insurance policy and framed Bryan. In a final confrontation at an airport, Bryan stops Stuart from fleeing with his daughter, Kim. He is eventually cleared of all charges while Stuart is arrested.
