Full plot (contains spoilers)

Lydia Tár, a world-renowned conductor in Berlin, faces a crumbling reality as she prepares for a major recording and the release of her memoir. Her life is complicated by her relationship with her assistant Francesca, her marriage to concertmaster Sharon, and her involvement with a young cellist, Olga Metkina. Following a series of personal and professional lapses, including a dispute with a former student, Krista Taylor, who ends her life, Lydia's reputation is shattered by a viral video and allegations of sexual predation. After being removed from her position and separated from her family, a desperate Lydia retreats to her old studio and eventually flees to her childhood home on Staten Island. In a final, surreal turn, she finds herself in the Philippines, where she is seen performing in a different, modern context, ultimately appearing before a crowd of cosplayers to perform a video game score.
