Full plot (contains spoilers)
Kund, the protagonist of the story, seduces Rita, a young married woman from high society. He persuades her to hand over 30,000 marks (euros). With the money in his possession, the pickpocket does not begin a new life but instead marries a criminal’s daughter. He cynically tells the woman he deceived that he married the other woman only because Rita gave him the money. Rita then reports him. The pickpocket takes revenge by telling Rita’s husband that he seduced her. Her husband rejects Rita and throws her out of the house, whereupon the pickpocket abducts her to a brothel.
