Senior management dismisses his concerns as jealousy between colleagues, leaving Romero with the difficult task of proving his suspicions through journalistic means.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
While working together on an article for Die Chronik, Europe’s largest journalistic magazine (a reference to Der Spiegel), freelance journalist Juan Romero (a reference to Juan Moreno) notices inconsistencies in the accounts of his colleague Lars Bogenius (a reference to Claas Relotius; “bogus” means “fake” in English). Romero starts investigating on his own and uncovers a potential scandal within his own publication. When he lets the editorial staff in on his suspicions in an effort to prevent their jointly written story from being published, the senior management dismisses his concerns as jealousy between colleagues. Romero has only one chance: he must bring Bogenius down using journalistic means.
