The story
In New York City, a demoted police detective convinces a talented taxicab driver to help him track down a Brazilian gang of bank robbers and discover how they transport stolen money. After the detective is fired for insubordination, the unlikely duo proceeds to confront the gang. The story begins with the driver, Belle Williams, who maneuvers through the streets with incredible skill, and the bumbling detective, Andy Washburn, who is relegated to foot patrol after crashing his partner's car.

Belle Williams, a skilled taxi driver, is approached by Andy Washburn, a bumbling detective demoted to foot patrol after crashing a police car. They team up to track a Brazilian gang of bank robbers. After a botched initial attempt where Belle is mistakenly apprehended, Washburn convinces her to help him. They discover the gang hides stolen money in the trash for garbage collection. Washburn is fired for insubordination, and Belle receives a reckless driving warning. The duo discovers the gang has kidnapped a garbage man's wife and recovers her. They then plan an ambush on the next robbery. To save a hostage, Washburn's ex-girlfriend, Lt. Marta Robbins, offers to take the hostage's place. The duo organizes a trade on a bridge under construction. During the exchange, the robbers' leader, Vanessa, wounds Belle. Washburn drives her to the hospital, crashing into the entrance. The film ends with Belle achieving her dream of driving in NASCAR and Washburn being reinstated, going undercover with Robbins.
