Full plot (contains spoilers)
Fifteen years after leaving Beacon Hills, Scott McCall runs an animal shelter in Los Angeles, while Lydia works in San Francisco and Derek runs an auto repair shop. The peace is shattered when a hooded figure frees the Nogitsune in Japan, causing Scott, Lydia, and Chris to receive visions of the deceased Allison. They travel to Beacon Hills to perform a ritual at the Nemeton, which unexpectedly resurrects Allison with amnesia. She initially attacks Scott but later forms a truce against the Nogitsune, which has been possessing Chris to trick the pack. The Nogitsune manifests nine Oni and abducts several pack members, holding them in an illusionary bardo. The true culprit is revealed to be Adrian Harris, who is using mountain ash to trap his enemies. Lydia produces a banshee scream that restores Allison's memories. Scott persuades the Nogitsune to release everyone if Allison executes him; she shoots him, but Hikari's kitsune spirit shields him. The reunited pack kills the Oni while Scott, Derek, and Eli overpower the Nogitsune. Derek sacrifices himself to become a true Alpha, and Allison reunites with Scott. At Derek's funeral, Scott resumes his relationship with Allison and plans to adopt Derek's son, Eli.
