Full plot (contains spoilers)

In 2029, Kyle Reese travels back to 1984 to protect Sarah Connor from a Skynet-sent T-800. He finds that Sarah was raised by a reprogrammed T-800 named Pops. They encounter a T-1000 and eventually decide to travel to 2017 to stop Skynet's emergence. In 2017, they discover Skynet is known as 'Genisys.' They are joined by John Connor, who is revealed to be a cyborg. They eventually infiltrate Cyberdyne's headquarters to destroy the Genisys mainframe. In a final battle, Pops traps John in a magnetic field, and both are destroyed, but Pops is upgraded with mimetic polyalloy and helps the others escape. The trio travels to Kyle's childhood home, where he tells his younger self about Genisys to ensure their arrival from 1984.
