Full plot (contains spoilers)
In 1973, the Sawyer farmhouse was burned down by vigilantes, but an infant with a burn mark was found and raised by Gavin Miller. In 2012, Heather travels to her grandmother's home with friends to claim an inheritance. They pick up a hitchhiker, Darryl, who is killed by Leatherface. The group is subsequently hunted; Kenny is impaled and sliced in half, and Ryan is killed in a van crash. Heather escapes to a carnival before being captured by Deputy Carl, who takes her to the Sawyer slaughterhouse. Leatherface arrives but releases Heather after seeing a Sawyer sigil birthmark on her chest. A confrontation ensues where Burt and Ollie attempt to kill Leatherface, but Heather intervenes, killing Ollie and tossing Leatherface his chainsaw. Leatherface then kills Burt by pulling him into a meat grinder. The sheriff lets Heather and Leatherface go. Heather learns she is Edith Rose Sawyer and that Leatherface is her cousin, Jedidiah Sawyer. She accepts him as her only family. In a post-credits scene, Heather's adoptive parents arrive at the estate and are met by Leatherface.
