The story
Donny Berger, a middle-aged alcoholic and former child celebrity from a scandalous 1980s case, faces imprisonment for tax debts. To resolve his situation, he seeks a televised reunion with his estranged adult son, Todd. Donny travels to a Cape Cod estate where Todd is preparing to marry his fiancée. Donny must navigate the complexities of their shared past and the tension of the upcoming wedding to convince Todd to participate in a media appearance that could provide the financial windfall Donny desperately needs to clear his debts and secure his future.

In 1984, Donny Berger became a child celebrity after a scandalous affair with his teacher, Mary McGarricle, led to her imprisonment. Twenty-eight years later, Donny is an alcoholic facing prison for tax debts. He learns his son, Todd, has changed his name and built a successful life, unaware of their shared past. Donny travels to Todd's wedding in Cape Cod, where he is initially introduced as a friend. After a series of events, including a night of bonding and a realization of the bride's infidelity, Donny reveals the truth of their relationship to Todd. Todd breaks off his engagement, reclaims his birth name, Han Solo, and begins a new life. Donny ultimately wins a long-shot bet that covers his debts, allowing him to face his past and prepare for his eventual reunion with Mary.
