The birds and pigs must forge an unlikely alliance to stop a new threat from destroying their homes.
The story
On Bird Island, Red has become a hero after saving the island's eggs, and defends the island from a prank war against the pigs of Piggy Island, led by Leonard. One day, a giant ice ball from the distant Eagle Island crashes near Piggy Island, prompting Leonard to call for a truce and propose an alliance with the birds. The new threat comes from Zeta, the leader of Eagle Island, who is tired of living on the island and plans to take over both islands by launching lava-filled balls of ice from her superweapon inside of a volcano. Meanwhile, Red struggles with insecurity, fearing he will no longer be admired if peace is achieved.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
After a giant ice ball from Eagle Island crashes near Piggy Island, Leonard proposes a truce to the birds. They must unite to stop Zeta, the leader of Eagle Island, who plans to use a superweapon to take over both islands. Red, struggling with his identity as a hero, joins forces with the pigs and his friends, including Chuck, Bomb, and the newcomer Silver. The team travels to Eagle Island via a submarine. During the journey, Mighty Eagle reveals his past with Zeta. Upon reaching the island, Red and Silver attempt to infiltrate the weapon while the others disguise themselves as an eagle. In the climax, the team works together to sabotage the cannon. Red and Silver's attempt to destroy the weapon from within fails, but Chuck uses a special string to slow the lava balls. The hatchlings and piglets help hold the line, causing the cannon to explode and destroy the base. Mighty Eagle reconciles with Zeta and her assistant, Debbie, and they eventually marry. Red earns more respect from his people, and he and Silver begin a relationship. The hatchlings discover they were caring for a boa constrictor's eggs, and the babies are exchanged with the snake's offspring.
