A couple in a dystopian future must survive a grueling seven-day evaluation to prove they are fit to raise a child.

The story

In a near-future society where environmental collapse and resource scarcity have led to strict regulations on parenthood, only those who pass a rigorous seven-day assessment are permitted to raise children. Mia and Aaryan, a couple living in a technologically advanced home beneath a protective dome, are desperate to become parents. Their lives are disrupted when Virginia, a stoic and enigmatic government-appointed assessor, arrives to live with them. Over the course of a week, she subjects them to a series of unconventional and increasingly intrusive tests designed to expose their vulnerabilities and determine if they are truly capable of raising a child in this controlled world.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

In a world where environmental collapse has made procreation nearly impossible, Mia and Aaryan live in a high-tech dome. They are subjected to a seven-day assessment by an official named Virginia. To test them, Virginia adopts the persona of a child, causing the couple to confront their own insecurities. The tension escalates during a dinner party where neighbors judge their readiness. During a brief moment of separation, Virginia manipulates Aaryan into a sexual encounter. Later, she burns down Mia's greenhouse. At the end of the week, Virginia fails them without explanation. Aaryan confesses his actions to Mia, and they attempt to reconcile with a simulated baby, which Mia ultimately rejects. Mia discovers that Virginia was secretly allowed to fail everyone to obtain a child for herself after losing her own. Following Virginia's suicide, Mia decides to leave the dome for the 'Old World' wasteland, while Aaryan creates simulated versions of a child and of Mia.
