The Warrens must confront a terrifying entity tied to an antique mirror that has haunted their lives and a new family.
The story
In 1964, Ed and Lorraine Warren encounter a haunting involving an antique mirror, an event that leaves them with a daughter, Judy. Twenty-two years later, in 1986, the Smurl family moves into a home in Pennsylvania and acquires the same cursed mirror. As the Smurls are terrorized by malevolent spirits, the Warrens—now retired due to Ed's failing health—are drawn back into the supernatural fray. When a local priest is attacked and Judy, who has become sensitive to psychic visions, seeks help, the Warrens must intervene to stop a demon that has been hunting Judy since their first encounter with the mirror.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
The story begins in 1964 with the Warrens investigating a haunted antique mirror; during the ordeal, Lorraine gives birth to a baby, Judy, whose life is marked by psychic sensitivity. In 1986, the Smurl family acquires the same mirror and is besieged by three spirits controlled by a demon. When Father Gordon is driven to suicide by the entity, Judy seeks out the Warrens. The Warrens eventually join forces with the Smurls to confront the demon. They discover the demon has been hunting Judy since 1964. After a series of violent attacks and a cardiac episode for Ed, the Warrens perform a ritual to destroy the mirror. The Smurls are freed from the haunting, and the mirror is placed in the Warrens' museum. The film concludes with Judy's wedding to Tony, where Lorraine shares a vision of their future.
