Full plot (contains spoilers)
Laura Faun grew up in an orphanage and later with the wealthy Faun family. Years later, she becomes a bestselling author but continues to live in her adoptive parents’ house in a small town because she enjoys the quiet life. After her neighbors are murdered, Laura is also considered a suspect. Another murder takes place at her masquerade ball, and soon a third murder follows. The murders resemble those in her book, and the residents blame her. Then her best friend from the orphanage suddenly turns up as well. Laura sees a way to stop the murder spree by staying one step ahead of her book.
