The story
Two decades after leaving Runway magazine, Andrea "Andy" Sachs has become a respected global journalist based in New York City. However, her entire newsroom is abruptly laid off by text message during an awards ceremony. Meanwhile, Miranda Priestly, Andy's old Runway boss, is under fire for publishing a puff piece about a fashion brand that uses sweatshop labor. To improve the magazine's credibility, Irv Ravitz, who owns Runway parent company, Elias-Clarke, and is Miranda's boss, hires Andy as the features editor without Miranda's knowledge. Andy must now navigate a landscape where Miranda struggles with modern media and the pressures of a changing industry.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Two decades after leaving Runway magazine, Andrea "Andy" Sachs is a global journalist in New York. When her newsroom is laid off, she is hired as the features editor for Runway by owner Irv Ravitz, who is secretly trying to help Miranda Priestly navigate a crisis involving a sweatshop-linked brand. Miranda, struggling with modern media and a more relaxed personal life, faces pressure from her boss, Irv, and later his son, Jay, who takes over after Irv's fatal heart attack. Andy faces off against former colleague Emily Charlton, who is now at Dior. During Milan Fashion Week, Andy discovers a plan to save Runway from a takeover by a tech billionaire, Benji Barnes, who intends to replace staff with AI. Andy ultimately secures a deal with a different buyer, Sasha Barnes, who grants Miranda the promotion she was promised. The film ends with Miranda and Andy reconciling their professional relationship, with Miranda encouraging Andy to write a tell-all book about her life.
