They are tormented by the corrupt Commissioner Boss Hogg and his henchman, Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane. After Rosco seizes the Duke property for eminent domain, the family discovers a secret safe containing geologic core samples, revealing Boss Hogg's plan to turn the county into a strip coal mine. The Dukes travel to Atlanta to meet with Katie-Lynn Johnson at a geology lab. They are arrested, but Daisy helps the boys escape. Upon returning home, they find Boss Hogg and Rosco have taken Uncle Jesse and Pauline hostage. While Daisy and Cooter rescue them, Bo and Luke race to cause a distraction. Bo enters the Hazard County Rally to race against Billy Prickett, while Luke and Jesse foil the police. They lead the townsfolk to the courthouse, where the strip-mining proposal is rejected. Finally, Daisy uses the presence of the governor and TV cameras to secure a pardon for the boys, ending with a celebration at the Dukes' house.
