A family's suburban life is upended when their neighborhood is suddenly transported into a prehistoric land filled with dinosaurs.
The story
In 1982, the Platt family lives in the suburban town of Flowervale, Michigan. While Denise and Greg navigate a strained marriage and personal secrets, a mysterious plant appears in a neighbor's yard, followed by reports of unusual solar activity. During a sudden storm, a blinding white light engulfs Oak Street, causing a power outage and a shift in atmospheric pressure. When the family ventures out to find their missing dog, they discover their neighborhood has been transported into a prehistoric landscape. They must navigate a world where dinosaurs roam free and hunt the residents, all while trying to keep their children safe in a land that is no longer their own.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
After the transition to the prehistoric era, the family faces immediate danger from a Coelophysis. They barricade their home while learning that the light was a wormhole. As the family is separated during a search for their children, they encounter other neighbors and a variety of prehistoric creatures, including a Spinosaurus and a Titanoboa. During a desperate attempt to find a way home, Greg is killed by an Allosaurus while protecting the others. The survivors eventually find a recurring wormhole above a neighbor's house. After a series of dangerous encounters, including a struggle against an Ornithosuchus group, they jump through the portal and return to July 11, 1982, just before the transition occurred. Denise manages to warn the other residents via a payphone. The film concludes two years later, where the survivors are safe in the modern world, and Denise has become a hero and a successful author.
