A group of people must navigate a country where an insurrectionist movement continues to commit violence after the Purge's rules are abandoned.

The story

In 2048, the New Founding Fathers of America (NFFA) party has been re-elected and re-instituted the annual Purge with its original rules. Amidst a surge of white supremacism and nativism, a Mexican couple, Juan and Adela, cross the border into Texas to build a new life. However, on the eve of the 2049 Purge, they find themselves caught in a growing movement of 'Forever Purgers' who refuse to stop the violence. As the country descends into chaos, Juan and Adela must navigate a landscape of escalating violence and shifting alliances to find safety and reach the border.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

In 2048, the NFFA re-institutes the annual Purge. Juan and Adela, a Mexican couple, move to Texas. During the 2049 Purge, they join a protected migrant community but are soon separated from their peaceful life. Juan discovers the Tucker family is being held hostage by 'Forever Purgers' and helps rescue them. Meanwhile, news breaks that civilians nationwide have declared a 'Forever Purge,' ignoring orders to stop. The group eventually reunites and attempts to flee to the Mexican border as the US enters martial law. In El Paso, the group is split by military forces and attacked by the Purge Purification Force (PPF). After a series of desperate battles and sacrifices, including the death of T.T., the survivors reach a safe house run by a Native American tribe. In a final stand in the desert, Juan, Adela, and others face the PPF. They successfully defeat the Purge forces and escape across the border into Mexico, where they are reunited as refugees.
