A pampered cat must embark on a high-stakes adventure with his estranged father to save him from a vengeful rival.
The story
Garfield is a fat, sedentary tabby cat who lives a pampered lifestyle with his beagle dog sidekick Odie and their owner Jon Arbuckle. One night while getting a midnight snack, Garfield and Odie are abducted by a Shar Pei named Roland and a Whippet named Nolan and taken to an abandoned mall. They are rescued by Garfield's estranged father Vic whom Garfield resents for abandoning him in an alley as a kitten. Jinx, a deranged white Persian cat with a grudge against Vic, arrives seeking revenge for being left behind during a milk heist at Lactose Farms. She then offers to forgive Vic if he, Garfield, and Odie steal a large quantity of milk as compensation for her imprisonment in the pound.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Garfield, a pampered tabby, and his friend Odie are kidnapped by Roland and Nolan and taken to an abandoned mall. They are rescued by Garfield's estranged father, Vic. A vengeful cat named Jinx demands they steal a large quantity of milk from Lactose Farms as a condition for her forgiveness. While traveling to the farm via a freight train, Vic tries to bond with Garfield. They meet Otto, a Highland bull, and agree to help him free his girlfriend, Ethel, from the farm's corporate control. During the heist, Garfield and Vic's tensions lead to them being tied to a tree, where Vic reveals he only stayed away to protect Garfield. Meanwhile, Jinx frames them with the authorities. After a chaotic sequence where they are separated, Garfield eventually realizes Vic's love and his true intentions. Garfield and Odie eventually rescue Vic from Jinx's plot at a bridge. After a confrontation where Roland and Nolan turn on Jinx, the group successfully retrieves Ethel and reunites with the other characters. The film ends with Garfield and Vic reconciling and moving in together.
