A group of people investigate a purportedly haunted house where the boundaries between supernatural activity and mental breakdown blur.
The story
Dr. John Markway, a paranormal investigator, invites a small group to Hill House, a 90-year-old mansion in Massachusetts with a dark history of deaths. The group includes Mrs. Sannerson, her heir Luke, a psychic named Theodora, and Eleanor Lance, a woman seeking refuge after her mother's death. Upon entering, they discover the house's architecture is intentionally askew, creating unsettling perspectives. As they spend their first night, Eleanor and Theodora experience terrifying sounds and menacing laughter, while the others remain unaffected. The group begins to explore the mansion, discovering strange occurrences and a marble statue that seems to mirror the residents' lives.
