The story
In 1757, during the French and Indian War, Mohican Chingachgook, his son, Uncas, and their white companion, Hawkeye, travel through the upstate New York wilderness. While stopping at a friend's farm, they learn of the British Army's intent to incorporate the local militia into their forces to fight against the French and their Indian allies. The group's path intersects with British Army Major Duncan Heyward, who is tasked with escorting the daughters of Colonel Edmund Munro to the safety of Fort William Henry. As the group moves toward the fort, they are forced to navigate a landscape of escalating tensions and looming threats from the French and their allies.

In 1757, during the French and Indian War, Mohican Chingachgook, his son Uncas, and their companion Hawkeye travel through the upstate New York wilderness. They join forces with Major Duncan Heyward, who is escorting the daughters of Colonel Edmund Munro to Fort William Henry. After a Huron named Magua leads the group into an ambush, the trio of Mohicans and the British officers reach the fort, which is under siege by the French. Amidst the conflict, a romance develops between Hawkeye and Cora. Following a failed attempt to secure reinforcements, the British are forced to surrender. After the British retreat, Magua and his Huron warriors attack, slaughtering the soldiers and civilians. Chingachgook, Uncas, and Hawkeye manage to rescue the women and escape. During a subsequent pursuit of Magua's party, Uncas is killed in combat, and Alice commits suicide. In the final confrontation, Hawkeye and Chingachgook defeat Magua's forces, with Chingachgook ultimately being left as the last of the Mohicans.
