A woman becomes stranded at a remote lodge with her fiancé's children during Christmas, only to find herself haunted by unexplained events and a dark past.
The story
Grace Marshall, a woman whose estranged husband Richard plans to marry her, finds herself stranded at a remote Massachusetts lodge during Christmas with his two children, Aiden and Mia. Grace, who was raised in an extremist cult, is met with hostility from the children. As Richard departs for a work obligation, Grace's unease grows due to the cabin's abundance of Catholic iconography, which triggers nightmares about her father. The atmosphere turns increasingly tense as the children act out, and Grace begins to experience disturbing visions and a sense of isolation as they remain trapped in the snowy wilderness.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
After the suicide of Laura Hall, her husband Richard plans to marry Grace Marshall, a survivor of an extremist cult. During a Christmas stay at a remote Massachusetts lodge, Richard's children, Aiden and Mia, treat Grace with hostility and reveal her cult history. When Richard leaves for work, Grace experiences nightmares and visions of her father. She discovers her belongings and food are missing, and the children claim they are in purgatory. Grace begins to suffer from medication withdrawal and sleepwalking. She eventually finds a memorial suggesting the children died of carbon monoxide poisoning on December 22, 2019. Aiden hangs himself but survives. The children eventually admit they have been gaslighting Grace by drugging her and playing recordings of her father's sermons. Grace enters a catatonic state, believing they must do penance. She begins self-flagellating, and when Richard returns, she shoots and kills him. She then forces the children to sit at a dinner table with her father's corpse, duct-taping their mouths with 'sin' written on them while holding a loaded gun.
